The name Hobo Farm was inspired by owner Steven’s vision of creating a place where travelers, like modern-day vagabonds, can come together to share stories and experiences. He wanted the farm to evoke the spirit of wandering souls who cross paths, enjoy good food, and connect in an intimate, relaxed setting—much like a group of travelers finding a temporary home on their journey.

Traditional Italian Cuisine at Hobo Farm
Upon arriving at Hobo Farm we were welcomed by the beautiful, rustic charm of the place. The farm covers an impressive 8.6 acres of land, including an organic apple orchard, an edible garden, and a hillside lawn that offers sweeping views of the Wall. After settling in, we enjoyed an intimate Italian dinner that was one of the highlights of our stay.
The meal began with Hobo Farm’s famous roast chicken, cooked to perfection, and accompanied by a variety of fresh and healthy options like homemade pesto linguine, crisp salads, and local wine. The farm’s “farm to table” philosophy really came through in every bite, with ingredients sourced straight from their own edible garden. It was more than just dinner—it was an experience. Surrounded by our friends, the cozy atmosphere of the dining room made for an evening full of laughter, storytelling, and cherished moments.

Hobo Farm Rooms
The farm’s design struck the perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort. We stayed in the Nómada Room, a spacious, 46m² suite with a private terrace offering a stunning view of the Great Wall. Waking up to that view was surreal, a beautiful reminder of where we were—an escape from Beijing’s bustling city life. The room had all the comforts we needed, including a private bathroom, modern shower, tub, and humidifier, making our stay feel indulgent yet homey.

For larger groups or families, the Hogar Suite offers a luxurious option with a home theater, fireplace, and dining room space. It would be perfect for a family gathering or even a weekend retreat with friends.

Another great option is the Artesano Room, a 40m² space for two adults located in the stone courtyard. It offers a cozy, comfortable stay with a private bathroom and flexible bed options, perfect for couples or friends looking for a relaxing retreat.

A Farm-Fresh Breakfast
The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious, farm-fresh breakfast in the beautifully lit dining area. The morning light streamed in, creating a peaceful, calming atmosphere that was the perfect start to our day. After breakfast, I took my coffee outside and spent some time in the sun with the farm’s many friendly cats, which added a charming touch to the rural experience. The views of the mountains and the Great Wall in the background made this moment feel extra special.

A True Escape from the City
What stood out the most about Hobo Farm was its tranquility. The farm’s yard provided a panoramic view of the Great Wall, and its expansive outdoor spaces—like the stone lobby, often used for salons and gatherings—felt like a blend of nature and art.
After our brief stay at Hobo Farm, I left feeling refreshed and reconnected with nature. Whether it was the delicious food, the quiet morning moments, or the warmth of the intimate dinner, everything came together to make this stay unforgettable. It’s the perfect retreat for anyone looking to escape the city and enjoy a unique combination of luxury, nature, and authentic farm-to-table dining.
For those planning a trip to the Simatai Great Wall or Gubei Water Town, Hobo Farm is an excellent choice for an overnight stay, or even just a day visit to enjoy the landscape, great food, and laid-back atmosphere. It’s the ultimate balance of adventure and relaxation.
