Every summer for the past several years, a giant sunflower garden is planted in the Beijing Olympic Forest Park! I came to check out the sunflower fields this July and it did not disappoint.

As a Beijing expat of several years, it surprised me that I hadn’t heard of this sunflower field or visited before! Recently I’ve been visiting Beijing Olympic Park more, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite parks in Beijing – it’s perfect for an afternoon walk around and has helped me stay active during the soft Beijing lockdown of May/June 2022.

How To Find the Sunflower Fields at Olympic Park:
Olympic Park is HUGE! It’s actually the largest park in Beijing. The flowers are in the north part of the park above the ring road. Go in the West Gate of the North Park and go to the Hua Tianye Qu area and you can’t miss them!
In Chinese:
Go to the 奥林匹克森林公园北园-安检出入口 gate, and walk to the 花田野趣 area.

There are many pathways built through the sunflower fields that you can walk through. I would recommend not going on a weekend, as there will be so many people around also taking photos!
A Few Facts About Olympic Park:
- Olympic Park is right next to the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) and called 奥林匹克森林公园 in Chinese.
- The park also contains the Beijing Olympic Tower, the second tallest tower in the city after the Central Radio & TV Tower.
- Beijing Olympic Forest Park was built for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and updated for the 2022 games
- It’s largest urban green landscape in Asia and the largest park in Beijing
